Unfortunately, we sometimes also encounter diet saboteurs as we lose weight–people who, for some reason or another, want us to continue our old, unhealthy habits. Because of this, it’s not always easy to find people who will encourage us as we begin adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Fortunately, there are a few different ways to find or create a weight loss support network. Here are a few suggestions:

Join our community! If you haven’t experienced our site yet, our free tools and vibrant community make finding friends and connecting with a support group very simple. You can track your progress towards reaching your goals; share your success with others as well as sharing in the success of others.

Ask friends and family. A reported 60% of Americans are overweight or obese, so it’s very likely that there are at least a few of your loved ones who’d like to drop a few pounds, too. Suggest that you all get together to provide support for one another through things like phone calls, emails and weekly weigh-ins.

Check local organizations. Some organizations–like churches or hospitals–have weight loss groups. Watch your local newspaper for announcements about diet and fitness support groups.

Surround yourself with people who encourage your healthy habits and you’ll be more likely to stay committed to your new lifestyle.
