The first thing I did when I started was to take several trash bags and empty my pantry and freezer of any processed foods. My next tactic was to figure out my weaknesses and look at substitutions. I went to the site and printed off recipes that would satisfy my weakness and made sure to have the key ingredients on hand.

What did I find helped me get to my goals best? Feeling great kept me goal-oriented my goal was never to lose weight it was just a really good side effect. My main goal was to get off stomach medication so not having stomach pain kept me on track and the weight loss was a nice extra incentive.

I have been overweight all my life and struggled with it. I had tried different diets and exercise regimens but nothing seemed to work. I had a friend who told me about the 21 day fix program, which I decided to try.

I started with my weakness first (sugar) and then worked on things like flour and dairy, then grains, etc. I never deprived myself completely but rather just cut back on portions until I felt comfortable with that change.

I also looked at what got me excited about food in the past (which was mostly carbs) and tried to find ways that worked for me where I could still enjoy those foods but in smaller portions than before.
