Many women turn to the latest diet fad, restrictive diets, or get-thin-quick liquid based diets. These diets can leave women with a nutritional deficiency due to lack of essential vitamins and minerals found in foods that are eliminated.

At other times, after the goal has been reached and previous eating habits return, some women gain back the pounds lost plus a few more.

Successful weight loss will most likely not be achieved through diet fads. For women to achieve their ideal weight, the best method for success is through a healthy lifestyle change.

Most people have a desired weight or a dream weight. But it is important to determine your ideal weight, which may or may not correspond to your desired weight. This would be the recommended healthy weight based on your weight, height, and individual body make-up. One way to assess your body weight is through the body mass index (BMI).

You can find your BMI by dividing your weight in pounds by your height in inches. Divide your result by your height in inches. Finally, multiply your answer by 703. A BMI result of more than 25 is considered unhealthy and increases chances of cancer, heart disease, and other health issues. A BMI 25 or below suggest a healthy and ideal weight.

Waist size is important as well. It is also crucial for women to trim or maintain their waist to 35 inches or lower. Even with a BMI below 25, a waist greater than 35 inches also leads to health issues.

Lifestyle Change

Women can achieve their idea weight by committing to a permanent healthy lifestyle and eating a balanced diet. Focus on fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low- or fat-free milk. Meats should be lean. Include protein sources such as eggs, nuts, poultry, beans, and fish. Limit your diet in added sugar, trans fats, saturated fats, salt, and cholesterol.

Failure may come in women believing that they have to eliminate favorite foods. The truth is that even if your favorite food is high in fat, sugar, or anything else, the key is moderation. Indulge in a slice of cake as a treat, and eat a smaller amount. Substitute natural sugar when possible and find a lower calorie recipe for your favorite food.

Along with a balanced diet, a good exercise plan will help women to achieve their ideal weight. It’s not necessary to pay hundreds in a gym membership for a beneficial workout. Take a brisk 30-minute walk in your neighborhood or on your work lunch hour at least 3 times a week.

Purchase a yoga mat for home use and do calisthenics or even home workout DVDs. You might even want to consider using yoga to help you lose weight. Exercising with 3-lb. and 5-lb. weights can help women to tone and define their body as they achieve their ideal weight as well as increase bone density.

With due diligence, women can find their ideal weight. Following these guidelines can help women to reach their goal, and most importantly, maintain it.
