Justin’s Weight Loss Astounds Dr Now! | My 600lb Life
Justin is a 33-year-old man from Houston, Texas. After struggling with his weight since high school, Justin decides that it’s time to get his life back on track and visits Dr Now to start his weight loss journey.
Justin can barely walk after gaining 100 pounds in just a few months. He weighs 635 pounds and has already been through multiple gastric bypass surgeries, but nothing seems to work.
Justin admits that he is addicted to food, and said that he’s been overeating since the age of 15. He also feels that he has let down his wife who is now disabled due to an accident and their three children.
“I don’t want my kids to look at me as an example,” says Justin. “I want them to see me as someone who got healthier.”
Dr Now agrees to help Justin lose weight and gives him a goal of losing 70 pounds in just one month. If he doesn’t meet the weight loss goal, he will be denied surgery.
When Justin was a teenager, he weighed 180 pounds. He was a healthy weight and enjoyed playing football in school. But all that changed when his mother, who suffered from chronic asthma, died when he was 15. He turned to food for comfort and started gaining weight.
By the time he was 18 years old, Justin weighed 360 pounds, and he didn’t want to stop eating. “I thought I was going to end up just like my mom,” he says.
Now at 21, Justin weighs 635 pounds — so much that he has to wear two seat belts on the plane to Houston to see Dr Nowzaradan. He has a hard time keeping himself clean because bathing is too difficult and painful for him.
Justin also struggles with depression and anxiety attacks that make him turn to food for comfort. “That’s not an excuse,” he says of his weight gain. “It’s just why.”
Dr Now says Justin needs to lose at least 100 pounds before they can even start considering weight loss surgery, so Justin starts on a liquid diet of 800 calories a day. Although it’s difficult in the beginning, Justin is determined to give it his best shot.
